Justin SHERWIN, MD

Dr Sherwin is a Melbourne-based ophthalmologist with subspecialty expertise in cataract, refractive and glaucoma surgery. He is Director of Peninsula Eye Centre and serves as Vice President and Board Director of the Australian Society of Ophthalmologists. In addition to his clinical practice, he is an Honorary Ophthalmologist and member of the Client Services Committee at Vision Australia, where he contributes to initiatives that improve outcomes for people living with blindness and low vision.
Dr Sherwin completed his medical training at Monash University before undertaking advanced academic and clinical training at the University of Cambridge, earning both a Master of Surgery (MChir) and PhD. His research has focused on eye disease epidemiology, cataract and refractive error blindness, and the impact of environmental factors on eye health. He has authored more than 60 peer-reviewed publications and remains actively involved in research, teaching, and clinical innovation.
Alongside his leadership and clinical roles, Dr Sherwin is a Visiting Professor at the University of Ulster and a lecturer with the University of Melbourne's Doctor of Optometry program. His work spans patient care, education, governance , and advocacy, with a particular interest in improving access to eye care services and strengthening the integration of ophthalmology and low vision rehabilitation across Australia.
